How to Create Skyfall Preset from Scratch: A Beginner’s Guide

Skyfall Preset: A Lightroom preset is a pre-stored collection of editing settings that may be clicked to apply to images. Adjustments to exposure, contrast, saturation, color grading, and blur can all be found in presets. Fast image enhancement, consistent photo editing, time savings, inspiration, and trying out new features are all possible with presets.

Skyfall Preset is a popular preset created by Erno Ybañez a Philippine editor. It became popular for it unique moody and warm style. This tutorial guide will help beginners create their own Skyfall preset, even with no prior experience. Just follow the settings I used in this guide to attain same result of Skyfall style.

What is Skyfall Preset?

Skyfall preset is a unique style of preset that brightens your picture with moody tones, cinematic feel, cool blues, dramatic contrasts, and faded orange. It is often used in photography, especially for landscapes, portraits, or cinematic effects.

Why Create One?: I encourage you to learn how to create these presets because you can’t get most of them freely, also it helps you master your editing skills on Lightroom. Learning how to create gives you opportunity to being a preset originator and you can start your own community with it, and sell them.

Getting Started: Tools You’ll Need

Editing Software Options: There are many software used for creating presets, but I specifically recommend you use Adobe Lightroom app. You can get this Lightroom app from your app store or playstore. This is because it is very easy to use and navigate.

Setting Up Your Workspace: This is not really compulsory but I will encourage you to be in a noise free environment to be able to concentrate. Also have a color grading panel or histogram, to assist you pick the right colors choice.

Sample Image: It is important to use a well lit image with natural lights. As this helps to bring out your edit clearly. Picture varies so use an unedited picture for your editing to be able to get the right edit quickly.

Step-by-Step Guide to Creating Skyfall Preset on Lightroom

Step 1: Step 1: Importing Your Image

Open your Lightroom app, on the bottom menu click on “Device” then select a clear bright edit free picture. Also, you can share or import your photo to your Lightroom app for further edit. Please check my YouTube channel for tutorial on how to import and export pictures to your Lightroom App.

Step 2: Adjusting Basic Settings (Exposure, Contrast, and Saturation)

• Click on Light on the bottom menu, then set Exposure at +0.47, Contrast -27, Highlights -100, Shadows -36, Whites -94, and Blacks +100.
• Click on curve , then navigate to the first circle (white) and adjust the settings as the image below.

• Tap on red and adjust the curve as in the picture below:

• Leave the green circle as default; then click on the blue circle, adjust the curves as in the image below.

• Click on “Done” to proceed.

Step 3: Applying Skyfall Preset Tones

• Click on Color on the bottom panel, then set Temp +25, Tint +20, Vibrance 0, and Saturation 0.
• Click on Grading then tap on the first circle, scroll down to where you see “Shadows” expand it with the arrow icon if you don’t see the options to adjust Hue and Saturation.
• Adjust Hue to 246, Saturation 11, Luminance 0, Blending 50, Balance 0.
• Click on the third circle under color grading; scroll down and set Hue 167, Saturation 28, Luminance 0, Blending 50, and Balance 0.
• Leave the other circles and click on ‘Done‘ to save.
• Click on Color mix, then tap on red. Set Hue 0, Saturation +19, Luminance 0.
• Tap Orange, set Hue 0, Saturation -16, Luminance 0.
• Tap Yellow, set Hue -98, Saturation -61, Luminance -28.
• Click Green, set Hue -100, Saturation -100, Luminance -66.
• Click Light Blue, set Hue +63, Saturation -87, Luminance -18.
• Tap on Blue, set Hue -100, Saturation -73, Luminance -32.
• Tap Purple, set Hue -48, Saturation -100, Luminance -43.
• Click Pink, set Hue -49, Saturation -77, Luminance -52, then click on “Done” to save.
• Click on Effects, set Texture +20, Clarity +13, Dehaze +55, Grain 0, Vignette 0.
• Click on Detail, set Sharpening 10, Radius 1.0, Detail 25, Masking 0, Noise reduction 22, Detail 50, Contrast 15, Color noise reduction 19, Detail 60, and Smoothness 72.
• Click on Optics and leave it as default.

Saving and Using the Skyfall Preset

• Click on Share (envelop) icon then click on “Export as…“
• Leave it at DNG and click on the mark icon to save.
• You can further choose to share to social media or the location you want to save it to.
• Also, you can rename and categorize the file you just saved from your file manager for easy future use.

Tips for Beginners

Please be advised that it is important to test your preset on a different pictures. This is because the quality or lighting of some image may affect the quality of the preset you just created. Therefore, you need to adjust the preset (e.g., changing exposure or saturation) to best suit the photos.

You can also choose to save your settings in a custom user preset list, which allows you to test different presets on photos at once.
