How I Save WhatsApp Status on My iPhone Without Asking Anyone

How to Save Videos and Pictures From WhatsApp Status on iPhone

Have you ever seen a funny or inspiring WhatsApp status and wished you could save it right away without begging the person to send it to you? I’ve been there too. Honestly, I used to get tired of asking people to “please send me that video,” and I could tell they were tired of hearing it too.

After trying a few methods (including the not-so-fun screen recording and screenshots), I finally discovered a simple way to save anyone’s WhatsApp status directly on my iPhone. WhatsApp doesn’t officially allow it yet, but there’s a little trick that works and it’s completely safe. Let me show you how.

The Trick: Using WhatsApp’s “Status Repost” Feature

WhatsApp recently introduced a new feature called Status Repost. It works a lot like Instagram’s repost feature; you can reshare someone else’s status to your own. Once you do, it becomes super easy to save that media from your own status.

This feature changed everything for me. Before, only Android users had apps to do this easily. But now, iPhone users can also save WhatsApp statuses in just a few taps.

Step 1: Enable Reposting for Your Status

Before you can repost someone else’s status, you need to allow your own statuses to be shareable.

Here’s what I did:

  1. Open WhatsApp.

  2. Go to Settings → Privacy → Status.

  3. Turn on the toggle for Allow Sharing.

That’s it! Now your account is ready to repost and save statuses.

Step 2: Repost Someone’s WhatsApp Status to Yours

Once your sharing is enabled, follow these steps:

Add status to my status and share with only me
Reposting Media from someone’s status to your status
  1. Go to the Updates tab.
  2. Find the status you want to save.
  3. Tap it and look for the repost icon (two arrows) or an option that says “Add to my status.”
  4. Add your own caption if you like, and post it.

Now the status appears under your own updates, ready to be saved.

Step 3: Save the Reposted Status to Your iPhone

After reposting, here’s how I save it directly to my device:

  1. Go to Updates at the bottom of WhatsApp.
  2. Find your status and tap the three-dot (⋯) icon next to it.
  3. Tap Save.

Alternatively, open the status, tap the three dots at the top right, and select Save. The media will now be saved to your phone’s gallery.

Bonus Tip: Keep It Private While Saving

If you don’t want anyone to see the status while you’re saving it, you can make it visible only to yourself:

  1. Go to Settings → Privacy → Status.
  2. Tap Only share with… and select just yourself or a dummy contact.

You can also adjust privacy settings while reposting; just choose “Only me” before posting. That way, no one will know you reposted it.

My Experience So Far

I’ve used this trick for weeks, and it’s been a game-changer. No more awkward messages like, “Can you send me that video?” Everything stays private and quick. Plus, the video or photo saves in full quality, not the compressed version you get when people forward it.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q1: Can I use this method on Android too?
Yes, but Android users have even more options, including file manager access and third-party apps that save statuses automatically.

Q2: Will the person know I reposted or saved their status?
No. As long as your privacy is set to “Only me,” no one will see it.

Q3: Why don’t I see the repost option?
Make sure your WhatsApp is updated to the latest version. The feature is rolling out gradually, so you may need to wait for it.

Q4: Does it work for both photos and videos?
Absolutely! You can repost and save both image and video statuses.

Q5: Is this against WhatsApp’s policy?
No, reposting and saving from your own status is allowed. Just don’t misuse other people’s content without their consent.

In summary:
If you’re an iPhone user who wants to save WhatsApp statuses without bugging anyone, just enable Status Repost, share it to your own updates, and hit Save. It’s quick, clean, and works every time.
