Dial *303*9*9#. You will receive a confirmation alert that your repayment request has been submitted. Please make sure you have enough on your balance to pay back. An sms will be sent to you that you have successfully pay back your loan. If you do not have up to the amount on your balance, you will still have some outstanding debt left.

Why can’t I borrow Data or Airtime from airtel?

The main reason is your eligibility to borrow data or airtime on Airtel;

To be eligible to borrow data from Airtel, you need to have recharged the sum of at least N200 for the last 3 months consecutively. I get this questions from most of my group members that if they are owing existing or outstanding data can they borrow again. Yes ofcourse and also no! Let me explain;

There is a limit at which you can borrow airtime or data on airtel. If your own limit is probably airtime or data worth N3000 and you borrow only N2000, you can still borrow up to N1000. Same as, if you borrow N3000 then you paid back N2000, and now having an outstanding balance of N1000 to pay back, you can still borrow up to N2000.

This is because your limit is N3000. So if you are owing up to your limit, you cannot borrow more data unless you clear part of all of your outstanding loan of data or airtime.

What happens if you subscribed to a data plan and have an oustanding airtime you are owing?

If you are owing an outstanding airtime and you refused to pay, then you subscribed to a data plan directly from your bank. For example, if you are owing N500 naira and you went ahead to do data worth N3000, Airtel will deduct data worth the N500 naira from your data balance. So instead of 13 GB you might be credited 10 GB and it happens instantly. As soon as you do the data, they automatically deduct it.

Why you shouldn’t borrow data from Airtel

The reason why you shouldn’t borrow data is because Airtel will not give you the best plan. There is also an interest fee attached to it. Another reason is borrowed data exhausts quickly.

I remember when I borrowed N1500 data and Airtel gave me 2 GB as a monthly plan that finished less than 3 days. I paid back N1700 or so because of the added interest fee. Meanwhile, I would have used that N1500 to purchase a 3.5GB plan for a week that will last me even more.

Why you should be cautious about borrowing airtime from Airtel:

Will Airtel debit their outstanding when I purchase a data plan with borrowed credit?
